LSG had a settled opening pair with KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. They needed a good quality middle-order batter an overseas pacer as a backup for Mark Wood and a few all-rounders. They built their squad on all-rounders in their debut season and this season as well, they kept the same template.

Among the players they released were Jason Holder, Andrew Tye, Manish Pandey, Evin Lewis, Dushmanta Chameera, and Shahbaz Nadeem. Having released the likes of Pandey and Lewis, LSG needed top-order batters in the auction. They also needed a replacement for Jason Holder who was their premier all-rounder last season.

Speaking about the IPL 2023 auction, a total of 991 players, including 714 Indians and 277 overseas, registered for the IPL 2023 mini-auction. The BCCI further shortlisted the list and narrowed down the number from 991 to 405 out of which only 87 were sold in the auction.

Having assumed a competitive squad and under the watchful eyes of Gautam Gambhir as a mentor, we pick three LSG players who can win the Man of The Tournament award in IPL 2023.

IPL 2023: 3 LSG Players Who Can Win The Man of The Tournament Award

KL Rahul

Rahul has been one of the most consistent Indian batters in the IPL alongside Shikhar Dhawan and Shubma Gill in the last few years. He has had four seasons of 600-plus runs in the IPL since 2018. Despite the added pressure of captaincy, Rahul notched up 161 runs in IPL 2022.

The Indian vice-captain will be LSG’s most important batter in IPL 2023. He is one of the three Lucknow Super Giants players who can definitely win the Man of The Tournament Award.

Nicholas Pooran

The LSG side has a few high-profile T20 batters and Nicholas Pooran is one of them. Lucknow dispatched over 16 crores to rope him in ahead of the next season. When in full flow he is a destructive T20I batter.

The West Indian white-ball skipper scored over 300 runs for SRH last season and will be eyeing his first 500-plus season this year. He also gives his franchise an extra wicket-keeper’s option as well.

Mark Wood

With his raw pace, Mark Wood can have a good season with LSG if he is available for the full season. Wood missed out with an injury in IPL 2022 but will be playing this year.

The England bowler’s extra pace makes him a lethal option with the ball and the bowlers will be wary of his threat. He is very close to being the leader of this bowling attack given his experience of playing freelance T20 cricket. Wood recently won the T20 World Cup along with England.
