IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Teams Which Can Pick Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch was one of the players released by Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2023. The franchise traded in Shardul Thakur, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Lockie Ferguson has and now has an available purse of 7.05 crores.

Aaron Finch has been part of nine IPL franchises – Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 35-year-old failed to perform well in the last IPL season scoring 86 runs from five games at an average of 17.20. There are reports across Australian media that the nation’s T20I skipper is thinking about skipping the next IPL season. However, nothing is official as yet and there are a few teams who might target him in the upcoming auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The franchise is looking to revamp its overall squad and might consider buying Finch. He had one of his best seasons in the IPL with SRH back in 2014 when he scored 309 runs in 13 games striking at 117.49 and averaging nearly 30. The franchise has a remaining purse of over 40 crores after the retention window and might think of spending a few crores behind him.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Finch played for Bangalore in 2020 scoring 268 runs in 12 games at an average of 22.33 and a strike rate of 111.20. The franchise has retained a good core of players during the retention window.

They have good depth in their batting and bowling. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis will lead the batting while Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Mohammad Siraj will lead the bowling group. There is an outside chance of the franchise buying Finch once again.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai made some big releases including veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard. They have three overseas slots to fill in with a remaining purse of 3 crores. Despite his recent lack of runs, Finch is an experienced T20I cricketer and one of the most experienced T20I players. Mumbai can fancy buying him in the upcoming auction and Rohit opening with Finch at the other end.
