IPL 2023 Auction: Three Spinners Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Can Target

Royal Challengers Bangalore retained 18 players in the retention window ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. RCB released just four players and retained the maximum of their core that took them to playoffs last season. The side will be led by Faf du Plessis but all eyes will be on Virat Kohli and how plays for his franchise having got his form back during the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. 

The IPL 2023 Auction is scheduled to be held in Kochi on December 23. All 10 franchises will be part of the IPL 2023 auction and try to induct some powerful players into their squads. A total of 991 players have registered themselves for IPL 2023 auction. However, only 87 maximum slots are left to be picked during the auction.

All the franchises can retain a maximum of 15 players in their squads. All the franchises need to have at least 18 or a maximum of 25 players for IPL 2023. IPL 2023 auction will witness an increased salary cap of Rs. 95 crores from last year’s cap of Rs. 90 crores.

A total of 163 players were retained by all the franchises. Sunrisers Hyderabad has the maximum salary cap available at Rs. 42.25 crores. Kolkata Knight Riders have the least salary cap available at Rs. 7.05 crores.

The franchises will look for specific kinds of players in the auction and in this article, we take a look at three spinners Royal Challengers Bangalore can target. 

IPL 2023 Auction: Three Spinners Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Can Target

Shakib Al Hasan 

RCB have Wanindu Hasaranga and Shahbaz Ahmed as the two specialist spinners. Both of them made a mark in the previous season for the franchise. Hasaranga finished as the second-highest wicket-taker with 26 scalps. The Bengal spinner took four wickets and chipped in with 219 runs from 16 games. The management can look to add someone like Shakib Al Hasan to their ranks to strengthen their spin attack. 

Previously they had Yuzvendra Chahal who took 139 wickets for them in 113 games. The addition of Shakib will only strengthen the side as he will be a worthy replacement for Chahal. He is a specialist all-rounder ad hence can chip in with the ball as well. Being the captain of the Bangladesh side, he can also be a part of RCB’s leadership group.

Piyush Chawla 

In case they want to go for an Indian spinner Piyush Chawla can be an option. He is among the 19 capped Indian players who have registered themselves for the IPL 2023 auction. Chawla has been a veteran in the IPL having played for Punjab Kings, KKR, Mumbai Indians, and CSK previously.

He has featured in all the IPL seasons since its inception in 2008 till 2021. His best with the ball has come for KKR and Punjab taking 66 and 84 wickets respectively. He is one of five Indian spinners with more than 150 IPL wickets. He has registered himself for a base price of 50 lakhs.

Amit Mishra 

RCB can target another veteran spinner of the IPL in Amit Mishra. Mishra has picked up 166 wickets so far in the league. Like Chalwa, he too has featured in every IPL season between 2008 to 2021. The leggie has registered himself also for 50 lakhs. Mishra has played for three franchises in the IPL namely Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He has taken 106 wickets for Delhi in 99 games to mark his best with an IPL franchise. In his last two IPL seasons, Mishra has played seven matches and picked up nine wickets.
