IPL 2023: Rating The Opening Pairs Of Each Team From Best To Worst

IPL 2023 auction took place last month in December 2022 and all the franchises have finalized their squads for IPL 2023. Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Chennai Super Kings made the top three expensive bids, buying Sam Curran (18.5 crores), Cameron Green (17.5 crores), and Ben Stokes (16.25 crores) respectively.
IPL 2023 will witness a clash among 10 teams. All these teams have developed their squads. While there are a few teams who have a mighty set of openers, there are a few teams who do not pose strong opening pairs. In this article, here rate the opening pairs of each team from best to worst.

IPL 2023: Rating The Opening Pairs Of Each Team From Best To Worst
1. KL Rahul & Quinton de Kock (LSG)- 9.5
KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock get the top spot on this list with a top rating of 9.5 out of 10. Both are the openers of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023. Both are the regular openers of their national teams in T20Is.
Last season, both of them were among the top 5 run-getters. While KL Rahul smacked 616 and was the 3rd highest run-getter last season. De Kock shattered 508 runs and was the 3rd highest run-getter.

2. David Warner & Prithvi Shaw (DC)- 9.0
David Warner and Prithvi Shaw are the second-best set of openers in IPL 2023. Both are part of Delhi Capitals team. Both of them own a superb form currently. Aussie star Warner slammed a double century in a Test match against Pakistan last month.
Prithvi Shaw scored a triple century (379) in Ranji Trophy. Both of them also give a right-left combination to batting. They get a rating of 9.0.

3. Rohit Sharma & Ishan Kishan (MI)- 8.5
Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan get the 3rd spot on this list with a rating of 8.5. Both of them play for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. Both of them get a chance to play for the Indian team. While Rohit Sharma is the skipper and regular opener for India, Ishan Kishan often gets opportunities in T20Is and ODIs.
4. Faf du Plessis & Virat Kohli (RCB)- 8.0
Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli grab the 4th spot on this list with a rating of 8.0. Both are the openers of Royal Challengers Bangalore in RCB. Faf du Plessis is a strong opening batter who has also shown outstanding performances in the past few IPL seasons.
Virat Kohli owns a fantastic batting form currently. He recently slammed 2 centuries in the ODI series against Bangladesh. However, Kohli is not an opening batter for India and owns less experience as an opener.
5. Jos Buttler & Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR)- 7.5
Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal get the 5th spot on this list with a rating of 7.5. They are openers of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023. Jos Buttler is definitely among the most powerful opening batters in international cricket.
However, his opening partner Yashavi Jaiswal does not own good experience. Jaiswal has shown good performances in the last few IPL seasons.
6. Ruturaj Gaikwad & Devon Conway (CSK)- 7.0
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway take the 6th spot on this list with a rating of 7.0. Both of them are a part of Chennai Super Kings. Both of them showed good batting form last season. However, while Devon Conway is a regular member of New Zealand national team, Gaikwad is not a regular player for the Indian team.

7. Shubman Gill & Wriddhiman Saha (GT)- 6.5
Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha get the 7th spot on this list with a rating of 6.5. Both are them are part of Gujarat Titans. Shubman Gill is a regular opener for India in ODIs currently and also showed wonderful form in the recent ODI series.
However, Wriddhiman Saha does not own much experience as an opener. He has shown good performance as an opener in IPL seasons. However, the 38-year-old does not play for Team India now.
8. Shikhar Dhawan & Jonny Bairstow (PBKS)- 6.0
Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow get the 8th spot on this list with a rating of 6.0. Both are part of Punjab Kings. Dhawan is a powerful opener who also plays for India in ODIs. Dhawan has been a consistent performer in previous IPL seasons.
However, Dhawan does not play for Team India as an opener. Jonny Bairstow is also a strong opener who has shown good performance in IPL. However, both of them have no experience batting together.
9. Venkatesh Iyer & Litton Das (KKR)- 5.5
Venkatesh Iyer and Litton Das take the 9th spot on this list with a rating of 5.5. Both are part of Kolkata Knight Riders. Venkatesh Iyer showed good form in the 2021 season scoring runs an average of 40+.
However, his performance was not up to the mark last season. Talking about Litton Das, he will play his first-ever season in IPL 2023 and hence owns no prior experience in the tournament.
10. Mayank Agarwal & Abhishek Sharma (SRH)- 5.0
Mayank Agarwal and Abhishek Sharma are the worst opening pairs in IPL 2023 with a rating of 5.0. Both are part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023. Abhishek Sharma scored 400-plus runs last season.
Mayank Agarwal used to be a Test opener for India in the past but does not qualify for that spot now. Hence, both these players are not part of the national side. Moreover, they will also play together as openers for the first time in IPL 2023.
