IND vs NZ 2021: India Could Have Probably Declared Five Overs Before They Did, I didn't See Any Intent From Axar And Saha – VVS Laxman

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman has opined that India could have declared five overs earlier on Day 4 because batters Wriddhiman Saha and Axar Patel were showing no intent out in middle.
Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane and Head Coach Rahul Dravid have been facing a lot of criticism from cricket pundits for declaring the innings late on Day 4. On Day 4, India faced a batting collapse and were reduced to 51/5.

However, Shreyas Iyer and Wriddhiman Saha smashed amazing half-centuries and bowling all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel played a good knock to help India score 234/7 and give the target of 284 to The Black Caps at Green Park, Kanpur. Chasing the target New Zealand struggled a lot but they managed to draw the match after losing 9 wickets.
India Should Have Bowled About Five Overs More Yesterday And That Could Have Been The Difference – VVS Laxman
Laxman believes that if India have got the opportunity to bowl 5 extra overs it would have created a big difference in the match. Speaking on Star Sports Laxman asserted:
“They could have probably declared five overs before they did. I didn’t see any intent from Axar Patel or Wriddhiman Saha. Yes, you wanted to get to a score which was about 234 but we all know that the last few overs is very tough for any batter, regardless of how established or new they are. So they should have bowled about five overs more yesterday and that could have been the difference.”
VVS Laxman further lauded Indian bowlers for doing an amazing job . However, he said that the top-order failure of India needs to be addressed. He asserted:
“Today, the bowlers stuck to their task. If at all there is one thing that needs to be addressed is the batting. The performance of the top-order batsman.”
