Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener, claimed that veteran pacer Mohammed Shami had been unfortunate lately because he had not been rewarded for his efforts. He was therefore happy to see the results of the bowler’s lbour in the second ODI in Raipur.
In the second one-day match against New Zealand on January 21, Shami, who had figures of 3/18 in six overs, was named Player of the Match.

India chose to bat first after winning the toss, and the Men in Blue bowled the Kiwis out for 108 in 34.3 overs. The hosts quickly reached the target in 20.1 overs with eight wickets still in hand.
Wasim Jaffer praised the Indian bowling effort and singled out Shami for special commendation. The veteran cricketer said the following after reviewing the Raipur ODI for ESPNcricinfo:

“I believed Mohammed Siraj and Shami bowled the corridor length that you bowl in a Test match. They bowled like that all the time. Shami bowled the length he normally does”
“He had a string of bad luck in the last several games. He smacked the bat far too often. But I think he got what he deserved today, With those two wickets, he bowled quite well, aided by Siraj and even Hardik Pandya, I thought India bowled quite well,” Wasim Jaffer Added.
“Surprising to see New Zealand fizzle out like that”: Wasim Jaffer
Wasim Jaffer continued by saying that given the way that New Zealand returned to Hyderabad, he anticipated a stronger fight from them. He described the Kiwi batsmen as tentative and went on to explain:
“It’s surprising to see New Zealand fizzle out so soon. It was a good pitch, but it wasn’t a high-scoring one. The nervousness of New Zealand’s batters definitely made India seem a lot better, although Siraj and Shami bowled exceptionally effectively. India completely outplayed them with another outstanding effort.”
In the second ODI, Pandya and Washington Sundar each took two wickets, while Shami got a three-fer. Each of Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Shardul Thakur contributed one wicket.
