The Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team went head-to-head with the Tom Latham-led New Zealand National Cricket Team in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Saturday, January 21.
India National Cricket Team thrashed New Zealand National Cricket Team by 8 wickets in the match to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. It was India’s 7th bilateral ODI series victory against the Black Caps at home. Notably, they have never lost a bilateral ODI series against the Kiwis at home. The third and final dead rubber ODI will be held at the Nehru Stadium in Indore on Tuesday, January 24.

India National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Notably, captain Rohit Sharma suffered an epic brain fade moment as he forgot his decision after winning the toss and after a long pause, he finally told “we will bowl first”. Also, both the Men In Blue and the Black Caps fielded an unchanged playing XI.
The decision to bowl first in the match proved incredibly beneficial for the Indian team as the pace bowlers ran through the New Zealand top order and reduced them to 15/5. All 5 premier batters of the side – Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham were sent back to the dugout for a very low score.

The 31-year-old all-rounder Michael Bracewell, who almost pulled off a heist with his exceptional 140-run knock in the first ODI in Hyderabad, was unable to replicate his performance in the second ODI. He contributed 22 runs off 30 balls, before being cleaned up by Mohammed Shami.
The Kiwis lost 7th wickets at the score of 103 in the 31st over when Hardik Pandya broke the 47-run partnership between Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner by dismissing the latter, who scored 27 runs off 39 balls.
The 26-year-old batter Glenn Phillips played over 50 balls and looked decent in the middle, but then smashed a ball off Washington Sundar straight to Suryakumar Yadav at deep midwicket to get out for 36. Then, Lockie Ferguson was dismissed by Washington Sundar for 1 and Blair Tickner was cleaned up by Kuldeep Yadav for 2. The Black Caps were bundled out for 108.
Mohammed Shami bagged a three-wicket haul while Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar bagged two wickets each. Also, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav picked up one wicket each.
Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill batted very well, with the former being the aggressor. Rohit showcased a batting masterclass and scored brilliant 51 runs off 50 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes, before being cleaned up by Henry Shipley in the 15th over.
Virat Kohli contributed 11 runs off 9 balls, before once again being cleaned up by Mitchell Santner in the 19th over. However, Shubman Gill remained unbeaten and scored 40 runs off 53 balls to steer India to an 8-wicket win over the visitors in the 21st over alongside Ishan Kishan.
