New Zealand National Cricket Team defeated India National Cricket Team by 21 runs in the match to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The second T20I will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, January 29.

The coin landed in Hardik Pandya’s favour and India National Cricket Team elected to bowl first in the match. Prithvi Shaw was unable to make it to the playing XI and Kuldeep Yadav was preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal.
New Zealand National Cricket Team, on the other hand, made two notable changes to the playing XI as Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls were replaced by Mark Chapman and Ish Sodhi.

Skipper Pandya opened the attack for his side against the Kiwi opening duo – Finn Allen and Devon Conway – and conceded 12 runs. Arshdeep Singh bowled the second over and conceded 11 runs, Washington Sundar gave just 3 singles in the third over and Arshdeep once again went for 11 in the fourth over.
In the fifth over, Washington Sundar cleaned up Finn Allen on the second ball after getting smashed for a six on the first ball and after bowling brilliant dot deliveries he cleaned up Mark Chapman for a duck on the final ball of the over. Allen scored 35 runs off 23 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Deepak Hooda gave away just 4 singles in the 6th over and at the end of the powerplay, the Kiwis were at 47/2.
Then, Conway stitched together good 60 runs in 47 balls with Glenn Phillips, before the latter’s dismissal for 17 in the 13th over, which was bowled by Kuldeep Yadav.
Arshdeep Singh dismissed set batter Conway in the 18th over and the power-hitter Michael Bracewell also got run out for 1 in the same over. The 31-year-old Kiwi opener scored 52 runs off 35 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six.
In the end, Shivam Mavi bowled an incredible 19th over as he conceded just 8 runs while dismissing Mitchell Santner. However, left-arm seamer Arshdeep bowled a terrible 20th over and gave away 27 runs. Daryl Mitchell remained unbeaten and smashed brilliant 59 runs off 30 balls, including 3 fours and 5 sixes. The BlackCaps posted a huge 176/6 on the board while batting first.
Chasing the target, India were off to the worst possible start as they lost the top 3 – Shubman Gill (7), Ishan Kishan (4) and Rahul Tripathi (0)- for just 15.
However, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya stitched together 68 runs in 51 balls to help their side gain some momentum. The No.1 ranked T20I batter scored 47 runs off 34 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes, before being cleaned up by Ish Sodhi in the 12th over. In the next over, Hardik Pandya was dismissed for 21 by Michael Bracewell.
In the end, Washington Sundar smashed a brilliant half-century, but no support from the other end meant India were restricted to 155/9. Captain Mitchell Santner was the star performer for his side in the bowling department as he gave away just 11 runs in his 4-over quota and picked up 2 wickets.

Washington Sundar is such a fantastic young cricketer to have. So much potential. If he manages to stay fit, would be a really good asset across formats.#INDvNZ

SKY is like de Bruyne. de Bruyne's always looking around to see where the defense has left a gap, where the space is developing. SKY is always looking at the field for where the boundary is available.
And then he aims at that gap, not matter where the ball is. Not batting.— cricketingview (@cricketingview) January 27, 2023
Washington Sundar has just hit the very six which Kohli hit the other day which people wrote poems about as a shot only Kohli could play.

Good knock but Sundar's dad is still not going to be happy today.

India lost exactly by 21 runs. If #arshdeepsingh had not bowled that #Noball, we would have won.
