Rishabh Pant is a wicketkeeper-batsman who plays for Team India an international cricketer. In the Indian Premier League, he represents Delhi Capitals while in domestic cricket, he plays for Delhi.

Before breaking into the Indian team and doing well in international cricket, Pant impressed one and all with his displays in the IPL as well as in the domestic circuit. Here we are taking a look at Rishabh Pant’s IPL cricket career.

Rishabh Pant IPL career:

Rishabh Pant's IPL journey began in 2016. On the same day he scored a century in the Under-19 World Cup to take India to the semifinal, he earned his maiden IPL contract from Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils).

So, Rishabh Pant’s first IPL team is Delhi Capitals. Pant hit the ground running in the IPL. In only his third game, he smashed 69 runs from just 40 balls to help Delhi thrash Gujarat Lions by eight wickets.

He went on to play 10 games in his debut IPL season and scored 198 runs with the help of one fifty. Pant hit 19 fours and 6 sixes in his maiden IPL campaign.

In IPL 2017, he played in all the 14 games that Delhi played. In those 14 games, the wicketkeeper-batsman scored 366 runs with the help of two half-centuries including a 97-run knock against Gujarat Lions.

In IPL 2018, Pant scored his maiden and so far only century. He smashed an unbeaten 128 runs from just 63 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was the highest score in the IPL by an Indian player.

Pant finished the season by scoring a staggering 684 runs with the help of a century and five half-centuries. It is still his most prolific IPL campaign. Pant has not managed to touch the 500-run mark since the 2018 season.

Pant enjoyed a fine season with the bat in IPL 2019 as well. He scored 488 runs with the help of three half-centuries as Delhi Capitals qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

In IPL 2020, Delhi Capitals made it to the final for the very first time and Pant played a key role in their journey. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 343 runs that season.

In IPL 2021, he led Delhi Capitals when regular captain Shreyas Iyer was sidelined due to a shoulder injury. Even after Iyer returned, Pant continued to lead the side and was later appointed as the permanent captain. In 2021, he scored 419 runs with the help of three fifties as Delhi Capitals made it to the playoffs once again.

Pant has been leading the side since then but has not managed to take Delhi to the playoffs. In 2022, he scored 340 runs before missing the 2023 season as he was recovering after the horrific car accident. He returned to action in IPL 2024 and hit the ground running, scoring 446 runs including three half-centuries while leading the team as well.

Overall, Pant has played 111 games in the IPL so far. Rishabh Pant’s total IPL runs are 3284 runs with the help of a century and 18 half-centuries.

Rishabh Pant has played against 11 teams in the IPL so far. Apart from playing against the current nine teams in the competition, Pant has also played against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiant.

He has played the most against Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The wicketkeeper-batsman has played 16 games against each of the three teams. Pant has scored the most runs in IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has scored 536 runs against the Hyderabad-based outfit so far. He has also scored 400 or more runs against three other teams - Royal Challengers Bengaluru (421), Mumbai Indians (402) and Rajasthan Royals (400).

• Rishabh Pant holds the record for scoring the most runs in a losing cause in the IPL. In the 2018 season, he scored 128 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad but still ended up on the losing side.
• In 2018, Rishabh Pant became the youngest player to score 1000 IPL runs, achieving the feat at the age of 20 years and 218.
• Pant is the second youngest to score an IPL century.
• Pant also holds the record for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a single season. In 2019, he affected 20 dismissals- 15 catches and 5 stumpings.
