Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra noted that Indian selectors have sidelined Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy from India’s white-ball squads.

On Wednesday, the BCCI announced squads for India’s upcoming white-ball series against West Indies.

Rohit Sharma, who missed the South Africa tour owing to a hamstring injury, returned to the side as the captain. Virat Kohli will continue to play as a pure batter after relinquishing Test captaincy.

India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for both ODI and T20I series in order to manage his workload.

India’s new spin pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t find enough success on South Africa pitches. Reports have suggested that Ashwin wasn’t available for selection as he will be undergoing treatment.

Kuldeep Yadav recalled for the West Indies ODI series

Chahal has retained his position in both the squads while his long-time spin partner Kuldeep Yadav will join him in the ODI series.

Axar Patel will play in the T20I series and Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar will play in both the formats for India against the Windies. Rajasthan’s young and talented leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has a great opportunity to make his debut for India in the upcoming matches.

I Hope Ravi Bishnoi is not sidelined straightaway like Rahul Chahar: Aakash Chopra

The Indian selectors have not considered Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Chahar, who were part of India’s T20 World Cup squad in UAE.

Chopra said it was surprising that Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy are being overlooked by the selectors and hoped that Bishnoi gets more chances after he makes his debut.

About Ashwin, I don’t know. It was reported that he won’t be available for 1.5 months but BCCI hasn’t released anything like that. Nothing has been spoken about Rahul Chahar or Varun Chakravarthy. We really didn’t know where these guys are,” Chopra said on his official YouTube channel.

No one is talking about Rahul Chahar, which is very very surprising. Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy were both part of the T20 World Cup side and now they’re both sidelined. In the previous T20I series, Chahar was unavailable and it was stated that he is unfit. But there is no discussion about him anymore.

“Ravi Bishnoi is now the flavour of the month and I really really hope he’s given chances and not sidelined straightaway like Rahul Chahar,” Chopra added.

India will play next against West Indies in three ODI matches and as many T20I series, the bilateral series begins on February 6 in Ahmedabad.
