Former Australia National Cricket Team pacer Jason Gillespie has stated that he is looking forward to the battle between the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli and pace spearhead Pat Cummins in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 is set to be played in February-March in India. The series will be the last 4-Test series between the world-class sides as from the next ICC World Test Championship cycle India and Australia will play a 5-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

In the upcoming Test series, there will be several mouth-watering individual clashes between the players from both teams and Jason Gillespie is most excited about the Kohli vs Cummins clash.

“I am really looking forward to seeing (Virat) Kohli vs Cummins. That’s a fantastic match-up. It will be interesting to see how they go. When Virat comes out to bat, I would love to see Cummins take the ball and go at him straight away. That will be great theatre, two wonderful cricketers at the top of their game,” Gillespie told Hindustan Times in a chat.

He can be a really awkward customer for the Indian batsmen – Jason Gillespie on Cameron Green

Premier left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the first Test against India but has still been named Australia’s 18-member touring squad for the series.

Gillespie, however, feels that the absence of Starc is not a big problem for the visitors as they have got the likes of Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Cameron Green in the lineup, who can trouble the Indian batters.

“Starc is obviously a left-armer and does get it to reverse very late. But Hazlewood and Cummins are equally good. They can all have a real impact with the old ball. Watch out for Green too. He can be a really awkward customer for the Indian batsmen. I think we will see the ball reverse swinging in this series,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur will host the first Test from February 9 to 13, and the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi will host the second Test from February 17 to 21.
