Indian skipper Rohit Sharma played a short but entertaining innings before his dismissal on day 1 of the Indore Test. He won the toss and opted to bat first. He opened the batting with Shubman Gill as India decided to drop KL Rahul after his string of poor performances.
Rohit Sharma was out facing his very first delivery of the match from Mitchell Starc. The ball took the faintest of edges as it flew to the keeper Alex Carey. Starc up confident with the appeal but did not take it finally as Carey was not confident. Television replays show that the ball indeed took the edge of the bat and Rohit survived a close call early.

He survived a close call again in the fourth delivery of the first over from Mitchell Starc. The ball pitched in line and was going to hit the stumps. For the second time in the over, Steve Smith the Australian skipper did not take the DRS and Rohit survived a close call once again.
Riding his luck early on in the innings, Rohit played some attacking shots as he scored 12 off 23 balls. He hit three fours in his innings and finally got his innings underway.

Seeing a puff of dust in the pitch inside the first half hour, Steve Smith brought in the left-arm spinner Kuhnemann in the sixth over of the innings. He induced a sharp turn in his very first over.

On the final delivery of his first over, the left-arm spinner finally got the wicket of Rohit Sharma who was looking a bit rusty after surviving those early calls. He stepped down the pitch to hit him for a big shot and ended up playing across the line. The ball pitched just outside the off stump and turned away from Rohit’s bat. Alex Carey behind the stumps completed the easy job of breaking the stumps. In his very next over Matthew Kuhnemann dismissed Shubman Gill to get India two down inside the first half hour.
