Australia continued to pile on runs on Day 2 where the visitors looked in complete control of the match. Usman Khawaja was dismissed on the very first ball of the evening session where Australia’s score was 409-8. Against the run of play, Todd Murphy & Nathan Lyon started playing an attacking brand of cricket. Todd Murphy was quite keen on playing shots as well as rotating the strike.

Australia went past 450 runs and it looked as if skipper Steve Smith would declare the innings to give their bowlers a crack at the opposition in the last hour of the game. Skipper Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was a bit questionable when he allowed the batters to rotate the strike where the team had a chance to wrap up the innings quickly.

Ravichandran Ashwin Dismisses Todd Murphy

At the end of 165 overs, Australia’s score was 479-8 where Nathan Lyon’s score was 33 runs in 92 balls whereas Todd Murphy was on 41 runs in 58 balls. Ravichandran Ashwin was brought into the attack for the 166th over and on the 3rd delivery of the over, Ashwin bowled around the wicket and trapped Murphy where the umpire gave it out. Todd Murphy reviewed the decision but it was the umpire’s call as the decision stood the same. Australia’s score at that time was 479-9.

Steep Road Ahead for India

The Men in Blue would be aiming to restrict Aussies below 500. The pitch so far doesn’t seem to have any demons where the Aussies too will have to work hard to pick wickets & make a mark. Ravichandran Ashwin took his 32nd five-wicket haul and has bowled impeccable lines & lengths.

Skipper Steve Smith’s captaincy would be tested on this surface where the bowlers have to toil a lot. Smith will have to use Starc in longer spells as the left-arm pacer has the knack for creating havoc. It won’t be wrong to say that Australia has got an upper hand in the 4th Test Match.
