Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard Among Big Names To Miss Out In The First-Ever Big Bash League Draft
The overseas BBL (Big Bash League) draft for the 12th season, which will be held from December 13, 2022, to February 4, 2023, took place on Sunday.
The Australian summer is getting ready for one of its most entertaining events, which will take place over two months and feature a number of foreign players.
The overseas draft was held to choose the foreign international stars for the eight teams competing for the BBL championship.
The teams wisely invested in players who would be available for nearly the whole tournament and selected players in the draft based on their availability.
According to CA, big starts like Andre Russell, Faf du Plessis, and Kieron Pollard were not picked by any of the eight sides.
Out of a total of 332 players representing 20 different nations, the eight KFC BBL clubs selected three international players each. While the Scorchers, who astonishingly passed in the first round, spent the least on players, the Stars, Thunder, and Hurricanes spent the most.
Trent Boult Set To Make His Big Bash League Debut
In round one, just the 12 platinum ($340,000) players were chosen, followed by gold ($260,000), silver ($175,000), and bronze ($100,000) in rounds two through four.
The first player selected was Liam Livingstone, who was selected by the Melbourne Renegades. The English all-rounder has been in great demand due to his six-hitting prowess and ability to bowl effective middle-order overs.
After forfeiting his contract with New Zealand Cricket, number one ODI bowler Trent Boult joined the Melbourne Stars. The Kiwi bowler will be making his BBL debut this time.
Sam Billings (Brisbane Heat), Chris Jordan (Sydney Sixers), David Willey (Sydney Thunder), and Shadab Khan were more significant players that the franchises acquired.
