Australia beat England by six wickets in the opening encounter of the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series at the Adelaide Oval on November 18. Young all-rounder Cameron Green bowled seven overs and scored an unbeaten 20 as Australia took a 1-0 lead in the ODI series.

The 23-year-old has returned to Perth after complaining of soreness and will miss the series final match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 22. The injury to the all-rounder is not considered serious, and Cricket Australia is taking precautionary measures to keep him available for the upcoming games.

Mitchell Marsh has been named in Australia’s playing XI for the second One-Day International (ODI) in Sydney, while wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis, who suffered a freak injury while playing golf ahead of the T20 World Cup, has been asked to replace Green in the squad.

“The decision to fly Green home to Perth centres around his Test preparation, with the 23-year-old a likely starter in Australia’s first match of the summer against the West Indies at Optus Stadium, starting on November 30,” said a report in thewest.com.au.

Australia’s wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis returned to the national team for the first time after missing the T20 World Cup at home due to an injury. He will captain the Prime Minister’s XI for the four-day tour match against the West Indies next week.

Pat Cummins and Jos Buttler opted to take a rest to manage the workload before the second ODI. Hazlewood has been named Australia’s stand-in skipper, which surprised many considering the presence of a veteran player like Steve Smith. David Warner, who was one of the favorites to lead the ODI side after Aaron Finch announced his retirement, was not picked ahead of Cummins, and Smith, the Test team’s vice-captain, was not considered at all.
