India National Cricket Team have been handed a double blow ahead of their ICC World Cup 2023 clash against New Zealand National Cricket Team as star batters Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have faced some issues during the net session on Saturday, October 21.
Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are part of India’s 15-man squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Kishan has featured in two matches so far for India, but Suryakumar Yadav is yet to make his ODI World Cup debut.
Suryakumar is being backed by many to secure a place in the playing XI as Hardik Pandya has suffered an injury and he is set to miss a few matches in the marquee tournament. However, the chances of Suryakumar Yadav playing in the World Cup have taken a major blow as he suffered an injury scare during the net session.
While batting in the nets Suryakumar Yadav was hit on his right wrist and he left the nets immediately. He was given an ice pack by the physio and later his wrist was all taped up, according to journalist Lalith Kalidas.
Ahead of Suryakumar’s injury blow, India suffered a setback when wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was stung by a bee and he left the nets in serious pain.

If we need an enforcer lower down the order, we can go with him – Rahul Dravid on Suryakumar Yadav
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Rahul Dravid was asked whether the inclusion of Kishan over Suryakumar in the playing XI would be an advantage considering he is a left-handed batter. He replied:
“It is. But again Surya has also come in with great form. Against Australia we saw that. Absolutely fantastic player against left arm spin or against any kind of spin. If we need an enforcer lower down the order, we can go with him.”
While talking about New Zealand, Rahul Dravid said that they are a brilliant team and they have a good depth in their team.
“Very good side. They play in India a lot. They come on A tours here a lot. In the IPL. We were going through their squad and they do have a lot of depth as a team. We know we’ll have to be at our absolute best. But yeah, we’re confident.”
India and New Zealand are set to lock horns at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.
