Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal expressed his delight after scoring his first international century on debut during the first Test match against the West Indies. Jaiswal reached this milestone on Day 2 of the ongoing Test match at Windsor Park in Dominica on Thursday, July 13.

Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 40 runs at the stumps on Day 1. The left-handed batter dominated against West Indies bowlers and converted his start into a big score. The southpaw scored an unbeaten 143 runs off 350 balls at the end of the day’s play with the help of 14 boundaries.

This Is Just A Start, I’ve A Lot To Do – Yashasvi Jaiswal

In a video shared by the BCCI, Yashasvi Jaiswal described his century as an “emotional moment” and dedicated the innings to his mother and father.

“It is very emotional for me and my family. For everyone who has supported me in any way. It has been a long journey. I want to say thank you to everyone who have helped me,” Yashasvi said.

“I want to dedicate this to my mother and father, they’ve contributed a lot. Thanks to god. I won’t say much now… I’m happy, this is just a start, I’ve a lot to do,” he added.

India Extended Their Lead To 162 Runs

Yashasvi Jaiswal became the 17th Indian batsman to score a Test hundred on debut. He also surpassed Sourav Ganguly’s record for the most runs on debut in away conditions. He formed a record-breaking 229-run partnership with captain Rohit Sharma, who also scored a century in the match.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 103 runs off 221 balls by Alick Athanaze. Shubman Gill, who batted at No. 3, failed to make an impact with the bat and managed to score just six runs. At the end of the day’s play, India reached 312/2, with Jaiswal (143) and Virat Kohli (36) remaining unbeaten.
