Mohammed Shami Becomes 5th Indian Fast Bowler, Overall 11th Indian Bowler To Pick 200 Test Wickets

Speedster Mohammed Shami who has performed sensationally for India especially in Test cricket has become the only 5th fast bowler from India to pick 200 wickets in the longest format of the game.

Speedster Mohammed Shami who was at 195 Test wickets entering the match bowled a stunning spell in the first innings of the first Test match of the three-match Test series against Dean Elgar-led South Africa National Cricket Team at the SuperSport Park, Centurion on Tuesday, December 28.

Pacer Shami picked all big wickets on Day 3 of the Test match as he dismissed Keegan Petersen, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada to complete 200 Test wickets in just 103 innings.

During this process, he became the only 5th Indian pacer to bag 200 wickets in the purest format of the game, before Shami the 4 other pacers to reach this feat were Kapil Dev who has picked 434 Test wickets in 227 innings, Zaheer Khan who has picked 311 wickets in 165 innings, Ishant Sharma who has bagged 311 wickets in 185 innings and Javagal Srinath who picked 236 wickets in 121 Test innings.

Also, Shami is the third fastest Indian pacer to reach this milestone as Kapil Dev and Javagal Srinath bagged 200 Test wickets in 50 and 54 Tests respectively.

Mohammed Shami who made his Test debut in 2013 against West Indies has bagged his 200 wickets in just 55 Tests at an average of 27.10 economy of 3.28 and strike rate of 49.4 including 6 5-wicket hauls, 4 of Shami’s 6 5-wicket haul have come away from home and his best bowling figure in a match is 9/118. Also, he is the only 11th Indian bowler to bag 200 wickets.
