Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has slammed the Rawalpindi pitch curator after England posted a record total on day 1 of the first Test. Four batters scored centuries as the visitors posted a mammoth 506/4 at stumps on day 1, setting the world record for the highest total registered on the first day of a Test match.

Zak Crawley (122) and Ben Duckett (107) stitched a solid opening stand of 233 runs to lay a strong foundation. Thereafter, the likes of Ollie Pope (108) and Harry Brook (101*) capitalised on the start with their partnership of 176 to put England in a commanding position on the opening day of the first Test.

Kamran Akmal took to his Youtube channel to express his disappointment and disgust on the Rawalpindi pitch curator. He further asked the PCB Chief Ramiz Raja to take quick action to improve the quality of the pitches.

“I don’t understand Pakistan’s team selection. Do they pick a team with their eyes closed? Or if they had prepared such a pitch that the result was going to be the same, irrespective of who was playing,” Akmal said.

“The PCB chairman must ask if such a pitch was created because the team management asked for it, or if Agha Zahid made it on his own. If the curator has made this pitch on his own, he should be sent to India or Sri Lanka to learn how to make good wickets,” he further added.

The pitch had no assistance for the bowlers, especially the seamers. Right-arm leg break bowler Zahid Mohammad picked up two wickets on the first day. There was no assistance for the seamers. Kamran Akmal said that Pakistan should have included left-arm spinner, Nauman Ali, for the Test series opener. He felt that the leggie would have been able to contain the flow of runs had he been a part of the playing XI.

“Nauman Ali should have been part of the playing XI. Even if the ball didn’t spin much, he could have contained runs. At least 500 runs would not have been scored if he was there. He has been with the team for two years now and has also picked up wickets,” Akmal pointed out.

England have started strongly on day 2 and are likely to post a total above 700 runs as previously pointed out by former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar.
