On Day 3 of the ongoing One-off Test between the Indian Women’s team and the Australian Women’s team here at the Wankhede Stadium, Richa Ghosh who is making her Test debut, produced a moment of magic thanks to her sheer game awareness by forcing a run-out against Aussie opener Beth Mooney.
The visitors after scoring 219 in the 1st innings, conceded 406 runs in India’s 1st innings and they currently trail by 124 runs at Lunch break. Australia are 63/2 with both of their openers – Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield back at the dressing room for 33 and 18 respectively.
Ellyse Perry and Tahlia McGrath are currently at the crease with India having an upper hand by the end of 1st session of Day 3. Wickets of Mooney and Litchfield fell between the space of just 2 overs with Sneh Rana having the ball in her hands on both occasions.

It was during the 5th delivery of the 12th over when Sneh Rana bowled a flighted full length delivery to Beth Mooney who had defensed the ball down very comfortably but in an unfortunate turn of events, the Aussie gave away her wicket poorly owing to a lack of game awareness.
But all the credits must go to debutant Richa Ghosh who exemplified game awareness and for a moment became the epitome of attentiveness. The 20-year-old who is originally a wicket-keeper was standing close to Mooney at the Silly point area.
As soon as Mooney struck the ball down, she took a few steps forward, moving out of the crease maybe without realising that she has to get back inside as well. Richa Ghosh after collecting the ball, noticed that Mooney is out of the crease and took a chance.
She threw the ball right into the stumps of Wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia with Beth Mooney dragging her Bat inside very late, in almost a careless and lethargic manner. An incident like this is very rare to see from an Australian player and she will definitely be gutted to give her wicket away like that.
But Kudos to the Siliguri-born Richa Ghosh who made her presence felt in her very first International red-ball match for India. The 20-year-old also scored a half-century in India’s first inning score of 406. Ghosh scored 52 off 104 balls which included Seven 4s after coming in at Number 4.
She lost her wicket to Kim Garth in 70th over but it will be fair to say that she has started her Test cricket career in the best way possible.
Meanwhile Harmanpreet Kaur’s side are riding high on confidence after beating England just a week ago at the same venue. They will look to upset the Aussies as well before a 3-match ODI series from 28th December onwards.
