India take on West Indies in the second T20I international at St Kitts on Monday. They won the first game by 68 runs and a win in the second T20I gives them a crucial lead in the five-match series. This match thus becomes an important one for West Indies as well to stay alive in the series. They have already lost the ODI series 3-0.
India scored a massive 190 runs on the back of contributions for Rohit Sharma (64) and the finishing kick from Dinesh Karthik (41 off 19 balls). Scores from the middle-order batsmen took them to 190. For West Indies, the chase was a tall task as they openly managed 122/8 in their 20 overs.
None of their batters was able to put up a substantial score as they lost the game by a huge margin. How the Windies respond to their huge defeat in the first T20I will be an interesting observation.

Though Rohit Sharma himself scored runs. his decision to open with Suryakumar Yadav backfired completely. Yadav scored 24 off 16 balls after being dismissed after a good start. Their middle-order continues to be a problem for them as the batters have been lacking consistency. Shreyas Iyer (o) Rishabh Pant (14) Hardik Pandya (1) and Ravindra Jadeja (16) were all dismissed cheaply.
The middle-order conundrum thus continues to grow in the Indian dressing room ahead of the T20 World Cup. KL Rahul continues to miss out on games after being affected by covid. As per the latest reports, he has not yet recovered fully from the dreaded virus.

Batting continues to be a bane for West Indies. Skipper Nicholas Pooran has highlighted it time and time again in the ODI series against India and the ODI series against Bangladesh as well. He said that his players are disappointed after the performance in the first ODI and are looking to bounce back.
“The players are feeling hurt, it’s the first game of the series and we are looking to bounce back. 18 overs it was 150 I guess and then they took the momentum away from us, we just have to work on our discipline. The spinners did well and we have to look at some of the combinations going ahead” said Pooran.
