The morning session of the 2nd day was shared yet again as South Africa managed to eke out a few valuable runs but not before the Indian pacers bowled with venom and restricted the hosts to 335 in their 1st innings. Skipper Faf du Plessis and Keshav Maharaj began well and struck some fluent shots to get going.

It was Mohammed Shami who provided the visitors with the maiden breakthrough of the day when he induced an edge from Maharaj’s blade which was safely pouched by Parthiv Patel behind the stumps. Kagiso Rabada was the next man in, and the southpaw survived a couple of easily dropped chances and went n to add a small yet valuable partnership with the skipper.

First, he was dropped by Kohli at slips while Hardik Pandya and Shami made a mess of the next one. Ishant Sharma eventually removed Rabada, and the lanky speedster added one more in a matter of minutes when he castled du Plessis with a beautiful inswinging delivery. However, the hosts had taken their score over the 300 mark.

Ravichandran Ashwin finished off the South African innings as Morne Morkel failed to time a flighted delivery and ended up giving an easy catch to Murali Vijay stationed in the mid-off region. India just faced a solitary over, and opener Murali Vijay began with a beautiful cover drive to get on with the proceedings of the bowling of Keshav Maharaj.

South Africa 335 all-out in 113.5 overs (Aiden Markram 94, Hashim Amla 82, Ravichandran Ashwin 4/113, Ishant Sharma 3/46)
