Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni continued his brilliance behind the stumps as he inflicted yet another wonderful stumping during the 3rd and the decidi9ng ODI against Sri Lanka at the YS Rajashekhar Reddy Stadium in Vishakapatnam. The dismissal came at a crucial juncture of the game which again put the visitors on the backfoot.

Sri Lanka was going great guns as former skipper Upul Tharanga, and Sadeera Samarawickrama were making light work of the Indian bowlers. Both were taking charge of the situation and struck some delightful shots in the process. Tharanga, in particular, was looking pretty dangerous as kept smashing boundaries at will especially of the spinners.

Left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav troubled him with a couple of sensational deliveries in his very first over, but despite the stutter, Tharanga made amends in the Yuzvendra Chahal over as he smashed him for a six and a four. The southpaw along with Samarawickrama looked to take Sri Lanka to a big score, but Chahal came to India’s rescue as he removed the youngster with a good delivery.

Former skipper Angelo Mathews joined another former skipper as the duo looked to get Sri Lanka back on track. Tharanga, in particular, was looking in ominous touch and looked well set for his 16th ODI century but eventually, it wasn’t to be as Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the southpaw. The ball turned just a bit after pitching which defeated Tharanga’s bat.

Dhoni who is always quick to wipe out bails took some time but removed it at the correct moment. He wasn’t sure, and the replays too showed how close it was. Eventually, the 3rd umpire felt that there was nothing behind the crease which prompted him to give the decision in favour of the home team. It was a much-needed wicket at that point which also brought about the dismissal of Niroshan Dickwella.

Currently, Sri Lanka has scored 176 runs at the loss of 4 wickets and with 19 overs left they will back themselves to get over the 300 mark. On the other hand, India will be looking to keep them to a modest total and seal yet another series in their home conditions.
