India Squad For T20 World Cup 2021: 3 Most Shocking Decisions. The BCCI, on Wednesday, announced India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Notably, the tournament is all set to be staged in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 17-November 15.
As far as the India National Cricket Team is concerned, they will begin their campaign in the tournament with a high-voltage clash against their arch-rivals Pakistan, who have also declared their 15-member squad for the tournament. Going into the tournament, the Men in Blue will be one of the heavyweights to clinch the title this year,
As the selection committee announced the Indian squad, there were a lot of shocking exclusions and surprising inclusions. Let’s take a look at the 3 most shocking decisions by the Indian selection committee.
India Squad For T20 World Cup 2021: 3 Most Shocking Decisions
3. Yuzvendra Chahal And Shreyas Iyer’s Exclusion
One of the most shocking exclusions from India’s T20 World Cup squad was that of Yuzvendra Chahal, India’s leading wicket-taker in the T20I format. Alongside Kuldeep Yadav, Chahal had been the go-to bowler in the limited-overs format.
Shreyas Iyer’s exclusion was equally shocking as the young Indian batsman was once touted to lead the team on the international stage. Although injury has been the prime reason behind his exclusion as stated by the selection committee, Suryakumar Yadav’s staggering form has also been one of the prime reasons behind his axing from the side.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin And Axar Patel’s Inclusion
Another very shocking news was that of the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. The two-all rounder from Delhi Capitals were in fact, preferred ahead of Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar in the squad. Both Shardul and Deepak have been named in the traveling reserves of the Men in Blue for the World Cup but they have failed to make the cut in the 15-member squad.
Axar Patel’s inclusion, in particular, has raised a lot of questions in the Indian cricketing circuit. Ravichandran Ashwin, on the other hand, will be donning the national T20 jersey for the first time in 3 years and the team will be highly expectant of him.
1. MS Dhoni’s Appointment As The Mentor Of The Side
The biggest surprise when the squad was announced came in the form of someone who will not really be on the field as the Men in Blue will look to clinch the title. However, the man’s stature in itself is so huge that the BCCI and the selection committee couldn’t hold back their willingness to be accompanied by none other than former national skipper MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni has been appointed as the Mentor of Team India for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The news broke like wildfire and it has been doing the rounds ever since as it suddenly came out of the blue. Dhoni is expected to have a massive impact on this side and surely, it will be a deadly combo of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni for any opposition to tackle in world cricket.
