Ravi Shastri, who is taking part in his last game as a Head Coach of the Indian cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 game against Gerhard-led Namibia National Cricket Team on Monday, in Dubai has said that they would have liked to have a bigger gap between the T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 ended on 15 October with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lifting their 4th trophy and just a couple of days later the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 began from 17 October.

Speaking to host broadcasters Star Sports ahead of the Namibia clash, Ravi Shastri said that he is mentally drained after staying in bio-bubble for the past 6 months and all the Indian players are physically as well as mentally drained. He said:

I am mentally drained but I expect that at my age. These guys are physically and mentally drained, six months in a bubble and we would have ideally liked a bigger gap between the IPL and the World Cup.”

Ravi Shastri further added that due to the mental and physical fatigue players are “not that switched on”. He also said that they are not scared of losing the game and they didn’t win a lot of games in the World Cup because they were missing the X-factor. He asserted:

It’s when the big games come and when the pressure hits you – you are not that switched on as you should be. And it’s not an excuse. We take defeat because we are not scared of losing. Because in trying to win, you will lose a game. Here we didn’t try to win because that X-factor was missing.”
