Steve Smith-led Australia National Cricket Team won the second Ashes 2021-22 Test against Joe Root-led England National Cricket Team by 275 runs at the Adelaide Oval on Monday, December 20.

In the ICC World Test Championship, 2021-23 teams will be ranked based on the percentage of points. A team gets 12 ( 100%) points for a win, 6 (50%) points for a tie and 4 (33.33%) points for a draw. Also for slow over-rates teams will lose one championship point for each over short.

Original Australia Test Captain Pat Cummins was ruled out of the day-night Test after being found in close contact with a Covid-19 positive person ahead of the match and his deputy Smith took the responsibility to lead the team in the match.

Australia won the toss and opted to bat first and the opener Marcus Harris was dismissed on 3. David Warner and Steve Smith scored over 90 runs but failed to score a century however, Marnus Labuschagne did reach the three-figure milestone. Also, Alex Carey and tailenders played good knocks and Australia decided to declare at 473/9.

Meanwhile, England in their first innings were able to score only 236 runs and only Joe Root and Dawid Malan played good knocks. Australia despite having a good lead didn’t enforce the follow-on and in the second innings they scored 230 runs and the home side decided to declare their second innings being 467 runs ahead.

England were given a humongous target to chase and the openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed were expected to provide a good start to the team. However, once again they failed as Hameed was dismissed on duck. Also, two of the top England batters at the moment Joe Root and Dawid Malan got dismissed after scoring 24 and 20 runs respectively.

Meanwhile, on the final Day, Australian pacers did an outstanding job, especially Jhye Richardson as he bagged a 5-wicket haul to help Australia register their second consecutive win of the ongoing Ashes series.

After the dominating win over England, team Australia have retained their No.2 spot in the rankings. On the other hand, England are placed 2nd from the bottom with only 08.33 percentage points.
