Kolkata Knight Riders opener Venkatesh Iyer was delighted after being retained by the franchise for IPL 2022. On Tuesday, the IPL 2022 retention list was out with most of the teams having retained four players, which was the maximum limit set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Venkatesh Iyer along with Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarthy was retained by KKR. The 26-year-old player expressed his gratitude to the franchise for putting faith in him.

“I am really happy to be back, KKR is the franchise that gave me my big break and introduced me to the world of cricket. I am extremely grateful to KKR management for putting their faith in me,” Venkatesh Iyer was quoted as saying in an official release by KKR.

Venkatesh was the revelation of IPL 2021 and broke into the KKR team with his power-hitting spree against the best bowlers in the world.

The left-handed batter scored 370 runs from 10 innings in the second phase of IPL 2021 at the strike rate of 128.41.

As a result, Iyer also got the opportunity to make his international debut for India in the recently- concluded three-match T20I series. Iyer said that he feels like home at KKR.

“I feel at home being a part of KKR, the franchise has played a very vital role in me adorning the blues. I am looking forward to playing at Eden gardens, it’s always special to be there and to play in front of a packed crowd,” concluded Venkatesh Iyer.

KKR ended as runners-up to CSK in IPL 2021 after losing the final by 27 runs. KKR will look for a new leader after they released skipper Eoin Morgan and his deputy Dinesh Karthik.
