IPL 2022 will witness a battle among 10 teams as two new teams have been added to the tournament. Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the two new teams that will be part of IPL 2022. The IPL 2022 auction will also witness 10 teams bidding for their favourite players.
IPL 2022 auction is going to take place next month in February. Every team has been given a total salary purse of Rs. 90 crore for IPL 2022 auction. The old 8 teams have retained a total of 27 players in their squads. The old franchises were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players in their squads. Out of these, there could be a maximum of 2 overseas players and 3 domestic players.
Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders have retained 4 players each ahead of IPL 2022 auction. Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained 3 players. Punjab Kings has only retained 2 players.
2022 IPL Mega Auction Date, Time, Venue
According to BCCI’s latest plans, IPL 2022 auction will take place on February 12 and 13. The venue of the mega event is Bengaluru. About one thousand players are expected to register their names for IPL 2022 auction and out of these, 250 players might be part of the final draft.
Earlier, the IPL 2022 auction was expected to take place in January. However, there were some issues with Ahmedabad franchise owners CVC Capitals due to their alleged links to betting companies. After an independent investigation, BCCI gave a clean chit to CVC Capitals to form the team.
Lucknow is one of the two new franchises that will take part in IPL 2022. Rajiv Goenka’s RPSG Group is the owner of the franchise. The group made a bid of Rs. 7090 crore to win the ownership rights of the team.
Lucknow has named former Zimbabwe cricketer Andy Flower as their head coach. Vijay Dahiya has been appointed as the assistant coach for the team. Gautam Gambhir is the mentor of the franchise.
Lucknow franchise has picked KL Rahul for Rs 15 crores, Marcus Stoinis for Rs 11 crores, and Ravi Bishnoi for Rs 4 crores. KL Rahul is also the skipper of the team.
CVC Capitals are the owners of the Ahmedabad franchise. The owners made a bidding price of Rs. 5,625 crore to win the ownership rights of the team.
The franchise has picked Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill as their three players. The franchise has offered Rs. 15 crores each to Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan, and 7 crores to Shubman Gill. Hardik Pandya will be leading the Ahmedabad franchise in IPL 2022.
Hardik Pandya is expected to lead the side in IPL 2022. Reportedly, the franchise is going to appoint Ashish Nehra as their head coach and Gary Kirsten as the team mentor.
Meanwhile, BCCI to looking to schedule IPL 2022 outside India due to the ongoing third wave of Covid-19. Sri Lanka and South Africa are the two venues that BCCI is interested in. The IPL 2022 is expected to be conducted in the month of April-May this year.
