Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions of IPL 2022. They won the trophy last year after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. With almost 1 month left for IPL 2022, Chennai Super Kings is gearing up for the tournament. During the IPL auction 2022, the four-time IPL champions bought a total of 21 players.

The men-in-yellow have a few strong players in the squad like MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Chahar, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Moeen Ali among others. The IPL 2021 winners will aim to start the tournament on a winning note and hence, will pick their best players for the opening game. Chennai Super Kings retained Ruturaj Gaikwad for Rs. 6 crores ahead of IPL 2022 auction. The right-handed batsman will be the opener for the team in the opening game of IPL 2022. Gaikwad was the top run-getter of the tournament last season. With 636 runs in 16 games, the 24-year-old batter played a major role in CSK’s stint to win the title.

Robin Uthappa

Chennai Super Kings could not buy back Faf du Plessis in their squad during IPL auction 2022. However, the team has bought Robin Uthappa and he might take up the role of the other opener for the team. Last season in IPL 2021, the right-handed batsman played just 4 games during playoffs and slammed 115 runs at an average of 28.75 and 1 half-century.

Moeen Ali

England all-rounder Moeen Ali might be the no.3 batter for Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of IPL 2022. Ali held the spot in the last season very well. The left-handed batsman shattered 357 runs in 15 games at an average of 25.50. With his hard-hitting batting style, he captures the required runs for the team in the middle-overs. CSK retained Moeen Ali for Rs. 8 crores for IPL 2022.

Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu will be a middle-order batsman for the team. The right-handed batsman bagged a deal of Rs. 6.75 crores by CSK in IPL auction. The right-handed batsman was part of CSK in the last season too. He smacked 257 runs in 16 games at an average of 28.55 and 2 half-centuries.

Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube might be another middle-order batter for Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of IPL 2022. The franchise bought him for Rs. 4 crores during the auction. Dube was a member of Rajasthan Royals last season. Playing 9 games, he scored 230 runs at an average of 28.75 and 1 unbeaten century. Dube is also an occasional medium-pacer and can lend a hand in bowling as well.

MS Dhoni (C and WK)

Chennai Super Kings retained MS Dhoni for Rs. 12 crores ahead of IPL auction 2021. MS Dhoni will be the skipper and wicketkeeper of the team in the opening game. With his leadership skills, Dhoni led the team to the title last season. Moreover, Dhoni is also an efficient and quick keeper behind the stumps. The right-handed batsman mustered 114 runs in 11 innings last season.

Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja was CSK’s top retention for IPL 2022 at Rs. 16 crores. The all-rounder was the star of the team last season. He slammed 227 runs in 12 innings at a spectacular average of 75.66. He slammed a fifty and a few match-winning knocks in the lower-middle order. With his spin attack, Jadeja also hunted 13 wickets in IPL 2021.

Deepak Chahar

At Rs. 14 crores, Deepak Chahar was the most expensive player for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022 auction. Last year, Chahar was part of the same team. He grabbed 14 wickets in 15 games in IPL 2021 at an average of 32.21. In two games, he bagged a 4-wicket haul in the powerplay overs to take the team to victory. Chahar will be one of the pacers who will play for CSK in the opening encounter of IPL 2022.

Dwayne Bravo

Chennai Super Kings bought back Dwayne Bravo in the squad for Rs. 4.4 crores during IPL auction 2022. Bravo was part of CSK in the last season too. Last season, the right-arm pacer dismissed 14 wickets in 11 games at an average of 18.78. Bravo is also a mighty tailender batsman for the team. He will be one of the overseas players for the team in the first match of IPL 2022.

Chennai Super Kings bought Dwaine Pretorius for Rs. 50 lakh during IPL 2022 auction. The South African pacer was the top wicket-taker for the team during ICC T20 World Cup 2021 last year. He will play his debut IPL tournament this year. The right-arm pacer picked 16 wickets in 11 T20I games last year in international cricket.

The off-spin bowler might be the spinner that the team picks in the opening game of IPL 2022. Santner is a regular player for New Zealand in the national team. The left-arm spinner has hunted 6 wickets in 6 IPL games so far.
