IPL 2022: "That is Like Serving Cake To A Kindergarten Kid"- Matthew Hayden on Shivam Dube Bowling 19th Over
IPL 2022: Australian legend Matthew Hayden has questioned Chennai Super Kings’ decision to bowl Shivam Dube in the 19th over against Lucknow Super Giants which proved costly as Dube went for plenty which completely changed the game.
LSG needed 34 runs from 2 overs, and a set Ewin Lewis was batting alongside young Ayush Badoni. In that scenario, CSK entrusted Dube with the penultimate over of the innings. Dube was bowling his first over of the innings. It wasn’t that CSK did not have enough choices.
Moeen Ali had 3 overs left, and Ravindra Jadeja too had a couple of overs left, yet the captain’s decision to bowl Dube in the 19th over baffled many. Dube had done well in the first innings as he scored 49 runs in 30 balls as helped his team post 210 on board. But by the end of the match, everyone was talking about that one over.
Moeen Ali or Ravindra Jadeja Should Have Bowled One More Over Matthew Hayden
“Moeen Ali bowled just one over. He got smashed for 14 but guess what, that’s what it’s like playing on these really dewy wickets. It’s really wet; imagine trying to bowl with that” ball. It’s not easy. And Shivam Dube as well… medium pacer, I mean that is just like serving cake to a little kindergarten kid. And Evin Lewis was just on fire”, Hayden said on Star Sports.
Hayden wasn’t happy with CSK’s fielding effort either as they dropped Quinton De Kock’s catch on the bowling of Dwayne Bravo which proved costly as De Kock went on to score a crucial half-century for LSG.
“Remember they dropped a few catches. Quinton de Kock got dropped off Bravo, that would have been the highest wicket-taking delivery. That didn’t happen. Also, Jadeja bowled just two overs, potentially he could have just managed Bravo to get him into that 17th, 19th over by bowling some additional overs,” added Hayden.
Matthew Hayden has represented CSK in the past. He was the orange cap winner in the 2nd edition of the league.
