IPL 2022: Updated Points Table, Orange Cap And Purple Cap After MI vs RR & GT vs DC

Saturday saw two matches being played in IPL 2022 with Mumbai Indians taking on Rajasthan Royals in the first match at the DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai. In the second match, Gujarat Titans took on Delhi Capitals took in Pune. Both matches were son by teams batting first as the trend of chasing to win games was challenged.
Both the games were high scoring with the teams batting first putting up challenging totals and the bowlers successfully defended it. Mumbai have lost their first two games, while Rajasthan Royals became the first team to win both their games defending.
MI vs RR
Royals scored 193 batting first courtesy of Jos Buttler’s second IPL ton. He was ably supported by Sanju Samson’s 30 and Shimtron Hetmyer’s 35-run contributions. Mumbai had no answer to Buttler’s belligerent batting and some incredible hitting.
Mumbai faltered early in the chase with the fall of Rohit Sharma. Despite Ishan Kishan scoring 54 and Tilak Verma’s impressive 61, they fell short by 23 runs with Kieron Pollard not finding his finishing touch in the game. Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal took a wicket each as Boult, Krishna and Saini took one each.
GT vs DC
Shubman Gill‘s career-best 84 powered Gujarat to 171/6 in their 20 overs Skipper Hardik Pandya (31) and David Miller’s cameo of 20 runs, in the end, took them to that score. The Fizz picked up three wickets for Delhi, while Khaleel Ahmed picked two.
The Capitals were not quite in the chase right from the start. They lost wickets at regular intervals and once the 61-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Lalit Yadav was broken, Delhi lost the plot and never came back into the match. Lockie Ferguson picked four wickets and broke the back of Delhi’s batting line-up as he was adjudged the Man of the Match.

The Royals have dethroned the Knight Riders to retain the top spot after the big win over Mumbai Indians. KKR are placed second followed by Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Supergiants. As said earlier, RR are the only team to win both their games batting first so far in this IPL.
Updated Orange Cap List:
Ishan Kishan is topping the Orange Cap list at the moment with 135 runs from two matches followed by Jos Buttler at number two and Andre Russel at number three. Faf du Plessis and Saju Samson are placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Updated Purple Cap List:
Umesh Yadav is still the leader in the Purple Cap race. However, Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Shami has broken into the top five after Saturday’s matches. Both are tied on five wickets along with Tim Southee and Wanindu Hasaranga.
