Former Indian player Harbhajan Singh is of the opinion that Virat Kohli might lead Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) once again in the Indian Premier League.

Kohli has played 207 matches for the franchise in the last 14 seasons and is the current leading run-scorer of the tournament with 6283 runs at the strike rate of 129.95.

Kohli was appointed as the team’s captain, taking over the reins from New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori in the middle of IPL 2012. Kohli led the Bangalore outfit in 140 matches and won 64 matches with a 48.16 win percentage.

Kohli stepped down from RCB’s captaincy role after his side was eliminated by KKR in the knockout match, which also stretched their wait to win their elusive IPL title.

Harbhajan, who has played with Kohli in the Indian national team, believes that the Bangalore outfit won’t find a better leader than their leading run-scorer.

Harbhajan also suggested the names of Indian youngsters like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan as potential candidates to lead RCB.

Despite having many big names, RCB is a team who is yet to lift the title. AB de Villiers won’t play this season and Kohli has stepped down from captaincy… so they need to find a captain now. Among Indians, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are the two names who can efficiently lead the team.

“Shreyas has already shown his captaincy prowess while leading the Delhi franchise. But I think Kohli will have to don the captaincy hat again. RCB won’t get a better leader than him,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

“RCB is making a new team and they will search for a good leader. But does Kohli want to take up the role? It will be a big challenge but I won’t be surprised if he agrees to be the captain for the next 1-2 years.

“RCB also needs to groom a young player who can lead them in future. If they get Ishan or Shreyas in the auction, they can be good Indian picks as future leaders,” he added.

Kohli, who pledged to play for RCB only for his entire IPL career, was retained by the franchise along with Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj for IPL 2022.
