Kuldeep Yadav was named the Player of the Match as Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai On April 10, 2022.
Yadav picked 4/35 and was instrumental in DC defeating KKR by 44 runs in what was an exciting encounter between two evenly matched teams. DC had batted first after KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Thanks to a 93-run opening partnership between Prithvi Shaw (51) and David Warner (61), DC managed to post 215/5 in 20 overs. They also got help from Axar Patel making 22* and Shardul Thakur making 29* with three sixes, which came off one over from Umesh Yadav. Only Sunil Narine with 2/21 proved to be economical and successful from the KKR side.
I Haven’t Tried Too Much And Am Focusing On My Rhythm: Kuldeep Yadav Says After Winning Player Of The Match
Kolkata Knight Rider’s chase didn’t get off to a good start as Ajinkya Rahane struggled to score 8 runs in 14 balls, while Venkatesh Iyer’s exciting knock of 18 ended after 9 balls. Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana came together and added 69 runs for the third wicket before Rana got out for 30 in 20 balls.
Well, then Kuldeep Yadav sprung into action, removing the dangerous Shreyas Iyer for 54 runs and then also accounted for Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine, en-route to final figures of 4/35. KKR managed to make 171 before being bowled out and lost the match to DC by 44 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav was named the Player of the Match and said: “[On the catch] Actually I didn’t think much. I felt I can reach it, and it is my wicket at the end of the day. It is important to take a pause and think about the bowling. This is a good wicket and the batters do well. Since some of the side boundaries are longer plus the ball was gripping, it was important to do well. Shreyas was batting well and hitting it well, so that was a big wicket.
Enjoyed Shreyas’ wicket more because it was my first and was the main wicket from the team’s point of view since he was batting well. I haven’t tried too much and am focusing on my rhythm. That’s what I did when I returned to the Indian team. I am enjoying my bowling and bowling good lengths. I pulled the lengths against Shreyas as well as Cummins. I am enjoying the environment here and have a good backing of the side. Rishabh guides me well from behind the stumps, too.”
Kolkata will now play Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 15 next, while DC clashes with RCB on April 16.
