Records galore for Shikhar Dhawan as he scored a match-winning 88 on his 200th IPL game. He joined an elite list of Indian players who have played 200 or more games in the IPL over the years. He also became the second player in the IPL with over 6000 runs and just the third Indian after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to cross 9000 runs in T20 cricket. The southpaw also became the first player to score hit over 1000 runs against CSK.
Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri was over the moon seeing the fabulous performance from the 36-year-old. He lauded him for winning another Man of the Match award.
Shikhar Dhawan Has Been A Gun Player For India: Ravi Shastri
“This man (Shikhar Dhawan) has been a serious player, you know, right in between them when he has been fit and he deserves all the accolades… 6000 IPL runs, 200th (IPL) game, man-of-the-match, finishing it off in style and like he said he has started advising youngsters now.. and I know Shikhi…he might be calling them and playing the flute.. I hope he plays the flute for a long time” said Shastri.
He was further impressed by how Dhawan addressed the post-match presentation saying that he was trying to guide youngsters who tend to “overthink sometimes.”
“Shikhar Dhawan measured what he had to do by reading the conditions. He (Dhawan) is seeing what the pitch had to offer, he is seeing what his role was.. his shot-selection, playing around with the fields, choosing the right bowlers to hit and the reason why I said he spoke beautifully (at the post-match presentation ceremony) was because it showed his thought process.” Shastri told Star Sports.
“It shows the way he has adapted himself over the years. I call him a gun player because in this country, most of the accolades have gone to Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma)” he further added.
So far in the IPL, Shikhar Dhawan has scored 302 runs in 8 matches. Punjab Kings roped him in for 8.25 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
