IPL 2024 Points Table
The Indian Premier League or the IPL is India's main T20 competition. The teams in the tournament are owned by franchises. The tournament is held annually between March and May and is organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The BCCI founded the tournament just days after India won the inaugural T20 World Cup. The IPL took the cricketing world by storm and is now the most successful, rich, and popular T20 league in the world. It is also one of the richest sports leagues on the planet.
In the first three seasons, eight teams participated in the league. Of those eight teams, seven are still competing while Deccan Chargers' journey came to an end after IPL 2012. The team was replaced by Sunrisers Hyderabad before IPL 2013.
At present, ten teams participating in the IPL. The tournament became a ten-team affair in 2022 when the BCCI added two new teams - Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.
Rajasthan Royals won the first edition of the tournament in 2008 and have not won since. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians hold the record for most IPL titles. Both the teams have won the tournament five times.
In 2020, Mumbai Indians became the first team to win the tournament five times before Chennai Super Kings equaled their record in 2023. The only other team to win the tournament more than once other than Chennai and Mumbai are Kolkata Knight Riders. The Knight Riders have won the tournament three times so far.
