The latest batting sensation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Venkatesh Iyer, has received a lot of backing from former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, as per his coach Dinesh Sharma. Harbhajan even introduced Iyer to Virat Kohli and requested the Indian skipper to spare some time for Iyer.

The 26-year-old Venkatesh Iyer has impressed everybody in the two innings he has played so far in the IPL. The left-hander scored a breezy 41* against Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) before bettering it further with a 53-run knock against Mumbai Indians (MI) last night.

Speaking about his student, coach Dinesh Sharma was all praise for his lad. Sharma pointed out the brilliant hand-eye coordination that Iyer possesses and hoped he would develop it further. He also stated that KKR teammate, Harbhajan, is very supportive and recognizes the talent Iyer has.

He was so happy [after fifty against MI]. The man who supports him a lot is Harbhajan. He has got a lot of support from him. Harbhajan backed him a lot and he got the debut cap. McCullum too likes him a lot,” Dinesh stated to TimesofIndia.com.

Venkatesh Iyer was so happy after speaking with Virat Kohli – Dinesh Sharma

After a comfortable victory over RCB, Venkatesh Iyer was introduced to Kohli by Harbhajan. He wanted to pick the 32-year-old Indian talisman’s brain on how to deal with pressure and maintain consistency over a period of time.

When Venkatesh scored 41 runs on debut, Harbhajan hugged him, praised him, and introduced him to Virat. Harbhajan went to Virat and told him about Venkatesh and asked him if he can spare some time for Venkatesh. Virat then gave Venkatesh some tips.

When Venkatesh talked to Virat, he asked about pressure, how to play long innings, consistency, and how to handle things in crunch situations. Venkatesh called and told me about the entire conversation and he was so happy after speaking with the legend,” the coach stated.

KKR will next face off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 26, Sunday.
