IPL 2023 Auction: Aaron Finch Doubtful For The 16th Edition Of IPL – Reports

Australia National Cricket Team T20I captain Aaron Finch, who was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2022, is doubtful for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, which will be the 16th edition of the tournament.

The 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Aaron Finch, who had a base price of INR 1.5 crore, went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.

However, he was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after the auction as a replacement for star opening batsman Alex Hales, who opted out of the IPL 2022 citing “bubble fatigue”.

Finch, who has already retired from ODIs, recently led the Australia National Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 on home soil. The Finch-led side entered the tournament as favourites, but didn’t perform very well and they were unable to make it to the semi-finals.

A source told Sportstar that the veteran Australian opener is unsure of his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

“At this stage, Aaron is still deciding if he would want to participate in the IPL. He has a young child at home, and now the event goes for 10 weeks which is too long. It will be a discussion in the coming period,” a source close to the player told Sportstar.

So far, Finch has been part of nine IPL franchises – Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 35-year-old Aaron Finch failed to perform well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as he scored just 86 runs in 5 matches and reportedly KKR are looking to part ways with the opening batsman. Reportedly, KKR want to retain Alex Hales ahead of the mini-auction.
