Salman Butt, a former Pakistani cricketer, has expressed his admiration for Shubman Gill’s recent string of reliable runs.

In the third One-Day International against New Zealand on Tuesday in Indore, the youthful opener struck another ODI hundred.

Gill scored an astounding 360 runs in the three-match series with just one dismissal, including a spectacular double hundred in the first game. With this, he tied Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, for the highest runs scored in a three-match ODI series.

“Shubman Gill is a rising star. Following his double century, he scored an unbeaten 40-odd in the second ODI and another hundred in the third. This demonstrates that he is eager for runs and is not satisfied with just one big score. The maturity he has shown at such a young age is simply astounding”

Salman Butt believed that although Gill had the potential to become a future superstar, he was unable to turn his solid starts into significant scores. But after four innings and three hundreds, the youthful player appears to have figured out the secret to consistency.

Butt believes that India’s top three are once again looking their menacing best in advance of the World Cup later this year with veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also back in form.

“We used to remark that Gill is a talented player who gets out on 30s and 40s. But, now that he has suddenly started converting big runs into big scores with such consistency, the doubts about India’s top order that arose after the T20 World Cup are progressively dissipating” Salman Butt said.

Gill tied Babar Azam’s record for the highest runs scored in a three-match ODI series with 360 runs recorded in three matches against New Zealand.
