Former Australian pacer Brett Lee backed left-arm speedster Mitchell Starc’s selection in the 2021-22 Ashes series against England. Starc, who picked 22 wickets from four games in the 2017/18 Ashes series at home, is currently struggling with his form.
Lock in Mitchell Starc for the Ashes 2021-22: Brett Lee
Although Starc picked nine wickets from seven games in the T20 World Cup, he leaked runs as he conceded 60 runs in the final against New Zealand.
However, Lee said Starc is one of the best Australian bowlers and said he would definitely pick him for his extreme pace enough to dismantle the opposition batters.
“There’s so much media around (saying) ‘Mitchell Starc’s not good enough, he sprays the ball around’. When Mitchell Starc gets it right he’s one of Australia’s best bowlers. Lock in Mitchell Starc,” Lee said on Fox Sports’s The Back Page.
“What would you rather face as a right-hand batsman – a ball shaping in at 150kms? I think that’s the key, if you shape the ball in at 150kms, you pick him every single time. I would have definitely picked him,” he added.
Josh Hazelwood complemented beautifully with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc: Brett Lee
Starc’s new-ball bowling partner Josh Hazlewood has had a tremendous year having won the IPL 2021 with CSK followed by the World Cup triumph.
In both the victories, he played a vital role as he controlled runs especially in the World T20, where he claimed 11 scalps. Lee said that Hazlewood has very well supported Starc and Pat Cummins in Australia’s pace battery.
“Those three guys pick themselves – Josh Hazlewood coming off a wonderful IPL, T20 World Cup, a wonderful Test bowler. He’s complemented beautifully with guys like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc,” Lee mentioned.
The first Ashes Test between Australia and England will be played on December 8 at the Gabba in Brisbane.
