Former England player David Lloyd was enthralled with the events that transpired in the battle for supremacy between James Anderson and Virat Kohli. Having just dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara with a peach, Anderson produced another moment of magic when he dismissed Kohli the very next ball to win the first bout between the two legends. It was the Indian skipper’s fifth golden duck in Test cricket.

The 38-year-old pacer managed to overtake Anil Kumble’s tally of 619 wickets during the course of the match and become the third-highest wicket-taker in Test history. He just fell short of grabbing another five-wicket haul, but Anderson would be satisfied with his efforts nonetheless. Talking about the dismissal, English legend, David Lloyd, described Anderson as a ‘warhorse’.

What a moment of theatre when Jimmy Anderson got Virat Kohli first ball. The India captain’s entrance was like a gladiator’s but the old warhorse produced the ball of the game. The elation and emotion of Anderson contrasted with the despair of Kohli, who stood there motionless but had to go. A great piece of Test cricket and one not to miss,” Lloyd wrote in The Daily Mail.

First Test between England and India ends in a tame draw as rain has the final say

The first of the 5-match Test series was completely in balance and could have gone either way. Alas, it wasn’t to be. Incessant rain played spoilsport and washed out the entire fifth day’s play. India needed 157 runs with nine wickets in hand on a pitch that had eased out quite a lot owing to the sun on the previous day. Batting had become much easier compared to the first three days.

With explosive batsmen in the Indian ranks, one would feel the Men in Blue couldn’t get the rub of the green going their way. With the first game drawn, the teams will now move on to the second Test that is set to be played at Lord’s in London from August 12, Thursday. Virat Kohli stated that the Trent Bridge team will be the template they follow going into the rest of the series. So it’s highly likely that the Indian team will field the same playing XI in the next game.
