He was part of the Indian team that won the two World Cups, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007, which was the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup, and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 under the leadership of legendary MS Dhoni.

Meanwhile, speaking to Manorama, the pacer said that prior to his retirement announcement he had informed KCA before the match against Gujarat that it will be his last match. He also said that he “deserved a farewell match”.

I was looking forward to playing the match against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy. In the team meeting ahead of the game, I had made it clear that it would be my last match for Kerala. I believe I deserved a farewell match,” the speedster told Manorama.

The 39-year-old, who played his last domestic game against Meghalaya, was asked whether he thinks he had made the decision to quit at the right time, to which he replied by saying that he did what a normal player would do after being “constantly ignored and sidelined”.

“I have been thinking over it for the past three months. I got an opportunity to play first-class cricket after a gap of nine years, but could not play any match due to the COVID-19 situation. In the 2021 IPL auction, I was not even considered. When I signed up for the 2022 auction, nobody showed interest in buying me. I did what any normal being would have done when one gets constantly ignored and sidelined.”
