IND vs WI: Virat Kohli Overtakes Virender Sehwag To Become India's 5th Highest Run-Getter In Test Cricket

Virat Kohli etched into the record books once again with his unbeaten knock of 36 on day 2 of the first Test in Dominica. He went past Virender Sehwag’s tally of runs to become India’s fifth-highest run-getter in Test cricket.

Kohli with 8504 runs from 110 Tests went past Sehwag’s tally of 8503 runs to now become India’s fifth-highest run-getter in the red-ball format. The list is led still by Sachin Tendulkar even after a decade since retiring from the game. He scored 15921 runs from 200 Test matches. He is the only player as of now to play 200 Test matches.

Kohli took his time getting those 36 runs as he faced 96 deliveries and hit just one four in his innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal was unbeaten on 143 on his Test debut. He added a 229-run opening stand with skipper Rohit Sharma (103). Shubman Gill batting at number three scored just six. Kohli then added an unbeaten 72-run stand with the southpaw to take India at 312/2 at stumps.

Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with 15921 runs in 200 Test matches. He scored 51 Test hundreds and retired from the format averaging 53.87. His record of 200 Test matches is unlikely to be broken.

Virat Kohli Rises To 5th Among Top Indian Run-Getters In Test Cricket

Rahul Dravid is second on the list of highest Test run scorers for India. He scored 13265 runs at an average of 52.63 including 36 centuries and 63 fifties. Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar is third with 10122 runs with 34 hundreds and 45 fifties at an average of 51.12.

VVS Laxman sits fourth on the list with 8781 runs in 134 Test matches at an average of 45.97, with 17 hundreds and 56 fifties. He fancied playing against Australia throughout his career.

Kohli has now moved up to the fifth position with 8503 runs. Virender Sehwag (8503), Sourav Ganguly (7212), Cheteshwar Pujara (7195), Dilip Vengsarkar (6868), and Mohammad Azharuddin (6215) complete the list of top run-getters for India in Test cricket.
