IND vs WI: Will Create Problems - Kamran Akmal On Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s Snub From T20I Squad

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were both snubbed from the Indian T20I squad that was announced for the five-match series against West Indies. There were several other key omissions as well that made the news.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee did not include the likes of Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad while names like Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were added to the squad. Sanju Samson also returned to the T20I squad in the absence of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul.

The seam attack named by the selection committee especially lacks experience. Arshdeep Singh will lead the attack that has the likes of Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Umran Malik. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal were chosen as the specialist spinners along with Ravi Bishnoi.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal spoke about the omission of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from India’s T20I squad. He urged the BCCI to not remove Rohit and Kohli from the T20I side. Akmal stated that both need to be in the side during ICC events irrespective of the format.

“When there’s an ICC event, I believe these two players have much cricket left. When these two are there, the other team is under-pressure. Without these two, no matter which ICC event it is, you can’t make a team. These are all-time greats. Virat Kohli is next-level in international cricket. He’s inspiring a generation with his passion and performances. You need to cash it as much as you can,” Akmal said.

He further said that removing the duo all at once might create problems for the Indian team, especially in the batting order. Rohit and Kohli has not played any T20I cricket for India since the T20 World Cup last year.

Rohit Sharma Is A Big Game Player: Kamran Akmal

“To sideline them straightaway… I think it is going to create a lot of problems. Rohit Sharma has scored hundreds in T20Is, he’s a big game player, has the ability to single-handedly win matches. You can easily play these two in T20s. You don’t need to make them captain. But when you play in ICC event, you cannot make teams without them. I still hope I can see these two players in 2024 World Cup.”

Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the side. He led the side against Sri Lanka and New Zealand in January. He will be back again to leading the side against West Indies and also potentially against Ireland later this month. India’s five-match T20I series against West Indies will be played after the Test and the ODIs.
