Delhi Capitals will be missing a few of their English players in the second half of IPL 2021. Sam Billings, Tom Curran, and Chris Woakes were a part of the side and were purchased in the IPL 2021 auction. While Billings did not find a place in the XI, Woakes and Curran played a few matches before the arrival of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje for the season.

DC are currently topping the table with 12 points from eight games. They lost two games one of them by just a margin of one run against RCB. The second game they lost was against Rajasthan Royals. In this article, we take a look at the strongest Delhi Capitals XI without English players.

The southpaw is having a dream run in the IPL for the last two seasons. He scored 521 runs in IPL 2019 and 618 in IPL 2020. He has already scored 380 runs in eight games in this season so far. he has good memories of the last IPL in the UAE and he may be one of the contenders for the Orange Cap this season as well.

Prithvi Shaw

Shaw’s knock against KKR was one of the highlights of his team’s campaign this season, The youngster has played fearless cricket and in the process has played a good foil to Dhawan who has been happy to take the backseat and allow the youngster to express himself. How Sha plays alongside Dhawan will be crucial for his side in the remaining season.

Shreyas Iyer

Iyer is likely to return to the team by the time the second half of the season starts in the UAE. He was ruled out initially with a shoulder injury but now he is in the process of recovery. He will also take back the captaincy duties from Rishabh Pant who led the team in six wins out of eight games. He will be back at number three.

The southpaw should follow his skipper at number four. Delhi’s middle order of Iyer, Pant, Stoinis, and Hetmyer has been their real strength and should continue that way. Pant is also going through a purple patch with the bat and Delhi Capitals must make full use of it.

The hard-hitting all-rounder slots in at number five in Delhi Capitals playing XI for the remaining season. He scored just 71 runs in the first 8 games for the side but he can make up for it in the second half. His power will be required for Delhi Capitals on the bigger grounds in the UAE.

Shimron Hetmyer

The Windies youngster has been a promising talent in the IPL. He scored an unbeaten 53 against RCB along with Pant but failed to take his team home. Stoinis and Hetmyer batting together can put the opposition bowlers into trouble. He too has enough power to clear the big boundaries in UAE grounds.

Axar Patel

The left-arm spinner will be one of the spinning options in the Delhi Capitals lineup. He has tasted good success in international cricket of late which should allow him to play more freely in the IPL. He bowls at a miserly economy for the side and picks up key wickets as well.

Ravichandran Ashwin

The veteran Indian spinner picked up just one wicket in the first half of the IPL. However, his place in the XI is secured given his experience. He will be looking to get back to wickets. He picked up 13 wickets last season. He is also one of India’s hopes in the upcoming World Test Championship final.

Kagiso Rabada

The South African pacer picked up just eight wickets from his first seven games. It was not as expected from him as batsmen had the measure of his pace. However, with the remaining half, he can improve on his figures and take Delhi to that elusive IPL title.

Anrich Nortje

Nortje did not play any games in the first half of the season after contracting the COVID virus. However, now he is back to match fitness and expected to join the Delhi Capitals squad for the remaining season. He will pair up with his fellow Protean pacer once again. They took over 50 wickets together last season.

Avesh Khan

The youngster took 14 wickets from 8 games in the first half of the season. He completes a strong-looking Delhi Capitals playing XI that the side might field in the second half of the season. He is also in the running for his maiden India call-up in Sri Lanka.
