With IPL 2021 less than a couple of weeks away, the experts and pundits in the cricketing fraternity have begun their predictions. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra, who is one of the reputed cricket commentators and experts, has opined on the most destructive opening pair ahead of the 14th edition. Aakash Chopra picked a precise team, which will likely have the most explosive opening combination in IPL 2021.
Aakash Chopra backed Mumbai Indians to possess the most destructive opening pair amongst all the teams. Mumbai Indians, who claimed their 5th IPL title, will start as favourites again, mainly due to their settled playing eleven. While the defending champions retained most of their core players, the franchise also picked a few players in the auction this year as back-ups.
Aakash Chopra said that he would go with Mumbai Indians since they have Quinton De Kock and Rohit Sharma. The 43-year old pointed out while those two are seasoned players, even if they tinker with that pair, Ishan Kishan could replace De Kock and still, it appears strong.
“I will go with Mumbai Indians as they have Quinton de Kock along with Rohit Sharma. There are two good banks there. Even if Quinton de Kock gets replaced by Ishan Kishan, it is again a very explosive pair. I will go with them,” Aakash replied to a fan in his Youtube channel.
Aakash Chopra dissects the other opening duos and batsmen in IPL 2021:
The cricketer-turned-commentator believes that if KL Rahul and Chris Gayle open, both could become invincible. He observed that there is no one to open with Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler, while Kane Williamson might bat in the top-order with David Warner for the Orange Army. Simultaneously, he asked not to forget Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw; however, Aakash agrees that sometimes Shikhar starts very cautiously.
“If Chris Gayle opens with KL Rahul, they can be a very explosive pair. There is no one there to open with Jos Buttler, while Kane Williamson may open with David Warner this season. We can’t forget Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, but Dhawan may play a bit cautiously so you never know,” he added.
