Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was clinical about Amit Mishra missing out on playing XI and Ravichandran Ashwin playing in place of him in the 33rd match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 between Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, September 22.

Speaking on Espncricinfo about Amit Mishra’s exclusion in playing XI and inclusion of Ashwin, Sanjay Manjrekar said that Amit Mishra adds more value to the team. Also, he believes that Amit Mishra was very unlucky to miss out on the playing XI.

As always I have a problem with one selection, Amit Mishra missing out, maybe because of the profile that he carries, I am comparing Mishra as a bowler with Ravichandran Ashwin. If you take everything away from the success of Ashwin in the Test cricket and just look at contribution or potential value he adds to the team as a pure spinner, I think Mishra wins that contest for me.” : Sanjay Manjrekar

“I always like to be clinical about such things, Amit Mishra is a bit unlucky to miss out.”: he added

Meanwhile, Dale Steyn was also not very pleased with the selection of Ashwin in the playing XI and he highlighted that Ashwin tries to the bowling with a defensive mindset. He stated:

When I watched him [ Ashwin ] bowl in the first half of the IPL, Ashwin didn’t want to spin the bowl he just wanted to bowl a lot of dot balls, he wanted to bowl a lot of carrom balls and he wanted to bowl a lot of flatter and lot straighter and that’s not gonna get good players out.”

Former South African cricketer Dale Steyn further added:

He [ Ashwin ] gets away with 24/1 and that’s fantastic but that’s not gonna win you many cricket games”

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin has also been included in India’s T20 World Cup 2021 15-member squad and he will be seen in action very soon.
