Delhi Capitals with a remaining purse of 19.45 crores will head into the IPL 2023 auction looking to five players two of who are overseas slots available. The franchise finished fifth on the points table last season and a loss against Mumbai Indians denied them a spot in the final four.

Delhi Capitals retained 20 players and released four. They have done well to retain the core of the side and will be led by Rishabh Pant next season. The Delhi skipper has not been in the best of touches in international cricket.

His form will be key in restoring the confidence of Delhi who was the finalists of IPL 2020 before losing out to Mumbai Indians. In this article, we take a look at three players who would have gone unsold had Delhi not retained them.

Marsh scored 251 runs and picked up four wickets for Delhi in 8 matches he played for them last season. He was unfit for the major part of the first half of the campaign. Once he got the opportunity he took his time and then started delivering the goods. He was picked up by the franchise for 6.5 crores.

He could not quite replicate the form that he showed in the T20 World Cup 2021 for the franchise. He has also been very injury prone as a cricketer over the last few years. Hamstring and calf injuries have played a big part in him missing out on quite a few international games for Australia. Coupled with poor form and fitness issues, the Australian all-rounder might not have found a franchise had he been released ahead of IPL 2023.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti

Delhi picked him up in the IPL 2022 auction for 1.10 crores. He played just one game for Delhi last season having bowled two overs. He played 11 games for KKR before the franchise released him ahead of the mega auction.

Nagarkoti is one among the many young pacers across the country who are waiting for an opportunity on the big stage. Despite the potential, Nagarkoti did not play too many games during his IPL career. With the franchises looking out for specific kinds of bowlers in the mini-auction, Nagarkoti might have gone unsold. He was a part of the 2018 India U-19 squad that won the World Cup.

Vicky Ostwal

Another former India U-19 spinner Vicky Ostwal was picked up by Delhi for 20 lakhs. However, as it turned out he and Yash Dhull both of whom were from the U-19 category did not get to play a single match for the franchise.

The left-arm spinner idolizes Ravindra Jadeja and has aspirations to emulate him at the international level. However, his inexperience as an international cricketer might have made it tough for him to get a franchise had been released. He has played six First Class Games, seven List A games, and just eight T20s. He was the leading wicket-taker for India in the U-19 World Cup 2022 taking 12 wickets in six games.
