Shivam Dube is a left-handed batsman who usually bats in the middle-order. He is also a right-arm medium pacer. Hence, he owns a rare profile in Indian Cricket, which has a shortage of pace all-rounders.
Shivam Dube rose to the limelight in recent times after his association with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. In the 2023 season, the left-handed batsman played a major role in driving CSK to the title.
Early Life and Career
Shivam Dube was born on June 26, 1993 in Mumbai City in Maharashtra. His family originally hails from Uttar Pradesh but shifted to Mumbai before his birth. His father Rajesh Dube was a businessman. His mother Madhuri Dube is a homemaker while he has a sister Pooja Dube.
Shivam Dube started playing cricket during his school days. He became a member of Mumbai Under-23 team at the age of 19. His first big break was playing for Mumbai in the SMAT Trophy in 2016, He represented Mumbai domestic team for a few years.
International Career
After his consistent show in the domestic circuit and IPL, Shivam Dube was picked for the national team in 2019. He made his international debut with a T20I against Bangladesh in November 2019. He made his ODI debut a month later against West Indies.
The left-hander played some games in 2020. However, he later lost his place in the national team for almost three years. Later, he was picked in the T20I side once again in 2023, after his fabulous show with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023.
After IPL 2023, Dube got consistent chances in the national team. Also, all-rounder Hardik Pandya's frequent injuries led the way for his selection as he shares a similar profile. Dube was also part of the Asian Games 2023 team that won the trophy in China.
IPL Career
Shivam Dube made an entry into IPL in 2019 when he was captured by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After playing two seasons, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021. In the IPL 2022 mega auction, Chennai Super Kings bought him for Rs. 4 crores.
Dube rose to the limelight with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022, when he slammed 289 runs in 11 games with a top knock of unbeaten 95. CSK skipper MS Dhoni backed him in the middle order and alloted him enough opportunities.
In IPL 2023, Dube emerged as a gemstone for CSK. With 418 runs in 16 matches at 158+ average, he did a wonderful job in the middle. His reliable batting helped CSK to win games and ultimately lift their 5th IPL title. The performance also helped the all-rounder steal a spot in the national team once again.
