India takes on New Zealand in the third and final ODI in Christchurch on November 30. The Kiwis won the first ODI and are leading the series 1-0. The second ODI was washed out due to rain. India needs to win the match to end the series at 1-1. A loss for India will mean that New Zealand will win back to back ODI series against the Men in Bule at home.

The series is a part of the ICC ODI Super League. India being the hosts of the next World Cup have automatically qualified for the ICC event next year. The Kiwis have also sealed their spot for the mega event with 125 points from seven games and are placed third at the moment. The top 8 teams have all sealed their place for the 50-Over World Cup next year.

Meanwhile, after the second ODI, the third is also likely to be impacted by rain. Scattered showers are predicted throughout the day in Christchurch on Thursday. If the game is washed out due to rain, the Kiwis will win the series 1-0. The very first T20I in Wellington was washed out due to rain followed by the second ODI in Hamilton.

The first ODI win was the 50th overall for the Kiwis against the Men in Blue. They have won the last five completed ODIs against India. Talking about head to head in ODIs both teams have played 112 games with India winning 55 and New Zealand winning 50. Six games ended in no result.

With a series to be levelled, it will be interesting to see if the management thinks about tinkering with their playing XI. While the debate has been picking one between Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant, the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav has gone under the radar. Kuldeep was named in both the T20I and ODI squads but is yet to play a game.

There are reports that Indian team management are thinking about including Samson into the XI. For this either they need to do away with their sixth bowling option or rest or rest one of their frontline batters. The Indian top-order has been the biggest positive in the series so far which has been heavily dictated by rain.

The bowlers leaked runs in the first ODI with specialist spinners Sundar and Chahal going wicketless in their respective spells. With the need to pick wickets in the middle overs, the inclusion of Kuldeep might not be a bad idea along with the likely inclusion of Samson.

The side will not want to tinker much with their playing XI depending on how the second ODI was played as there was hardly any cricket played in the game. Kane Williamson and Tom Latham looked in great touch. The only concern has been Finn Allen’s form who has been backed by the management to the hilt for the next year’s World Cup. He has scored just three runs in the two T20Is followed by just 22 in the first ODI. However, it looks like he will be given the long rope by the think tank that trusts in his abilities.

Their bowling is led by Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson with Mitchell Santner taking responsibility as the specialist spinner. If the side managed to win the series, it will be their second consecutive ODI series against India as said earlier.
