Punjab Kings have not been able to win an IPL title yet and one of the reasons behind their downfall has been the lack of consistency in winning games. They have had some match-winners on their side over the years but they have failed to maintain the core that can be successful in the longer run.
Punjab Kings haven’t reached the playoffs since the 2014 season and they will be looking to re-build a new team with the upcoming mega auction. The likes of Mayank Agarwal, Ravi Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh are all in contention to be retained while here are 3 big players who won’t be retained by Punjab Kings.

IPL 2022: 3 Big Players Who Won’t Be Retained By Punjab Kings
KL Rahul:
KL Rahul has been the best performer in the IPL for the last two years consistently and has always been in the race for the orange cap as well. Rahul has been under the radar for his strike rate at times but there is no question on his consistency.
Rahul has been leading the side in the last two years, and he was expected to be the favourite for retention. However, the right-hander has mentioned his motive on moving on from the side and hence, he is unlikely to be retained by the Punjab side.
Chris Gayle:
Chris Gayle is another big name who is expected to have played his last IPL season already. He hasn’t announced his retirement yet in IPL, but he hasn’t looked the same he was a few months back. He looked ordinary in the recent T20 World cup as well.
Gayle is likely to miss out on the retention as the 42-year-old veteran might not be an option for the future of the side and a youngster might be preferred ahead of him. However, there might still be takers for Gayle if he comes into the auction pool.
Mohammad Shami:
This is going to be a big call for the Punjab Kings side as they have always been poor with their auction pool and their bowling contingent has lacked quality. However, they made a wise choice by picking Mohammad Shami in the previous auction and he has led the pace attack.
However, Shami can be on and off at times and he is unlikely to be retained by the franchise. Punjab Kings might have to strengthen their bowling attack this time with the inclusion of seasoned campaigners and on current form rather than reputation.
